Victorian beauty and my current understanding

My new project is about Gothic horror I will be looking in to a particular book called great expectations by Charles Dickinson. The book characters are based on the Victorian era.

My current understanding on the Victorian beauty is that they hardly wore any makeup it was all about the natural beauty clear pale skin . The Victorians would not go out in the sun especially the wealthy as it showed off their wealth because of their pale white skin. Women that had tan skin was known as the poor as they had to work in the sun and that's where they would usually get there sun tan from.

Women who wore makeup in the Victorian era was known as prostitutes and actresses. It was not normal for them wear makeup it was seen as vulgar.
