Continuity & Its importance in TV & Film

Continuity is very important in TV and Film, when creating a movie each frame should be the same and this is where the make-up, hair, costumes and position is very important. Movies are made of frames of images that are short and capture every 0.1 second in each frame to create the movie. If the make-up, hair, costume or even positing is off from the last shot the continuity of the shot will be off and the viewers will notice it and the movie will not have a smooth continuity. It is not easy to do continuity as the smallest thing as the position of the hand or even the hair could be off and even big film makers sometimes make errors in the continuity, it is a tough job but has a make-up and hair artist you need to make sure that the continuity is as exact as the last one.

Here below are some images of some big film makers making an error in continuity;

The smallest things as the clothing in this image the button is undone in one scene and redone in another shot.

The hair of the actress for this scene, one minute her hair is tucked inside her jacket and net minute its out. It is very important to keep an eye on every small detail on your actors.

The actors positioning has changed in this scene and that is another detail to keep an eye on.

It is also to keep an important eye on the background actors who in this scene have swapped places and it puts the continuity off.

The props have changed in this scene one second shes eating a croissant next second a pancake and this doesn't make the continuity smooth.
