Great expectations is a story filled with love, fantasy, poverty, riches and dreams. It was written by Charles dickenson. The story keeps you on edge wanting to know much more making you keep turning the pages. This story is set in 1812 in the UK during the Victorian era.

The story is about main characters mostly Estella, Pip and Miss Havisham. Pip is a young boy, who lives with his sister and her husband, his family is very poor. Pip stumbles across a escaped prisoner called Magwitch, whom he helps by supplying him some food and tools. He then gets invited to Miss Havisham's house who is a lady with a lot of riches. Miss Havisham is a character who has been scared by her fiancé leaving her on the day of their wedding. Ever since that day she has never left the house or changed out of her wedding clothes or even cleared up the room where her wedding venue was meant to happen. She adopts a girl named Estella, a beautiful girl brought up and trained by Miss Havisham to be a heartbreaker who, she practices on Pip when he is invited to the house to play with Estella. Pip falls in love with Estella but Estella is forbidden to love but to break Pips heart. When Pip reaches his late teenage years he comes in to some money and goes to school to become a gentleman. He thought he was becoming one in order to be able to marry a gentleman but she betrays him by marrying another man who had no love for her and abused her. Pip later finds out that Magwitch is the one who funded him the money to become a gentleman not Miss Havisham and he moves away to live with Magwitch so that he doesn't get caught by the police. Miss Havisham ends up burning herself after Pip went to her questioning why she had caused him so much pain. Pip eventually returns home finding Estella as a widowed woman. There is no part where we find out that what happens between the two but we all let our imagination run and believe it all worked out for the two.

I really enjoyed reading this novel and even watching the films, I think theirs a really great twist about the story and that how two lovers no matter what still come back together. What really threw me off was Magwitch, I really did believe that it was Miss Havisham paying for pip to become a gentleman and to marry Estella but little did I know it was Magwitch was the actual person paying for the little boy who helped him once when he is escaped prison. The way Magwitch character seemed it did not come to my attention that he would be the one to help or have such a big heart we all learn that towards the end overall I really enjoyed the book and I do recommend other people to read it. The book really has a gothic horror feel and a Victorian feel to it.
